Robert Pierce is a graduate of the prestigious Neighborhood Playhouse School of Theater in New York City where he studied under the highly esteemed acting teacher, Sanford Meisner. While in New York, he made his professional acting debut in the role of Lysander in Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream."A native of California, Robert returned home to Los Angeles and soon began to receive starring and co-starring roles in many movies-of-the-week and episodic television shows. He was a regular on the ABC series Joanie Loves Chachi (1982) wherein he played "Bingo," the drummer. He also had a recurring role as Dabney Coleman's goof-ball son-in-law on the NBC series, Madman of the People (1994). Some of his feature credits include supporting and leading roles in such films as The Aviator (1985), Alone Yet Not Alone (2013) (which was briefly nominated for an Oscar for "Best Original Song") and Suburbicon (2017) directed by George Clooney and starring Matt Damon and Julianne Moore. He has also performed in over 150 television commercials.Robert's chameleon-like acting abilities have afforded him the opportunity to play a very diverse range of roles - from intense drama to wild comedy and everything in between. He is a master of accents - both foreign and domestic.He is a graduate of Pacific Palisades High School (Pacific Palisades, California) and is also a graduate (with honors) of the University of Tennessee where he played tennis on a full, four-year athletic scholarship. Robert played tennis professionally in tournaments all over the world, competing against such top level players as Jimmy Connors, Harold Solomon and Raul Ramirez.In senior tennis, he was ranked #1 in Southern California and 7th in the US.His music education includes four years of organ instruction and two years of vocal training in New York and Los Angeles. He also plays piano.His avocations (besides tennis) include reading, computers, free diving, fishing and screen writing. He co-wrote "The Climb," starring Dabney Coleman, Jason George and Ned Vaughn. After a brief theatrical run, it aired nationally as a movie-of-the-week and ended up winning first prize as "Best Feature Drama" at the International Family Film Festival.

1920
Pierce was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He moved with his family to southern California in the mid-1920s. He attended Pasadena Nazarene College and studied for the ministry. From 1937 to 1940 he spent time traveling across California working as an evangelist. In 1940 he was ordained a Baptist minister and soon thereafter he became involved with the Los Angeles branch of the WWII-era “Youth for Christ” (YFC) movement.
1947
In 1947, Robert Pierce joined Youth for Christ, in a series of evangelical rallies held in China. On the trip, he met Tena Hoelkeboer, a missionary Teacher. She presented him with a battered and abandoned child. Unable to care for the child herself, Tena asked Pierce, "What are you going to do about her?" Pierce gave the woman his last five dollars and agreed to send the same amount each month to help the woman care for the child.
1950
Pierce was a close friend to Abraham Vereide. Like other leading figures of World Vision, e.g. Richard Halverson, Senator Frank Carlson, or later Winston Weaver he was also involved in The Fellowship and the associated prayer breakfast movement founded by Vereide for which he worked during the 1950s as a field representative.. Robert Pierce was a godly man and full of the Holy Spirit.
1959
In 1959 Journalist Richard Gehman wrote that "[Pierce] cannot conceal his true emotions. He seems to me to be one of the few naturally, uncontrollably honest men I have ever met." Pastor Richard Halverson wrote that Pierce "prayed more earnestly and importunately than anyone else I have ever known. It was as though prayer burned within him. … Bob Pierce functioned from a broken heart."
1967
In 1967 he resigned from World Vision. In 1970, he founded the hunger relief organization that became the evangelical Christian organization Samaritan's Purse that was modeled after the early World Vision International. In 1978, he died of leukemia.
