Yves Lavandier was born on April 2, 1959. He is married with four children. After taking a degree in civil engineering, he studied film at Columbia University, New York, between 1983 and 1985. Milos Forman, Frantisek Daniel, Stefan Sharff, Brad Dourif, Larry Engel, Milena Jelínek were among his teachers.
During these two years he wrote and directed several shorts, including Mr Brown? (1984), The Perverts (1985) and Yes Darling (1984). He returned to France in 1985, directed a further short, Le scorpion (1987), and embarked on a scriptwriting career mainly for television.
He is the creator of an English teaching sitcom called Cousin William (1992). In addition to his career as scriptwriter, he began to teach screenwriting throughout Europe and published in 1994 a treatise on the subject: "La dramaturgie" (translated as "Writing Drama").
It is now considered a bible amongst European scriptwriters and playwrights. In August and September 2000, he shot his first feature film as writer-director Oui, mais... (2001). It was released in France on April 18, 2001 and deals with brief therapy, psychological games and teenage sexuality.
