From his beginnings as a child actor in his native Romania, Petrut went on to receive formal training in theater, film and television at the prestigious Theater and Film Art Institute in Bucharest.

As a film actor, Petrut was awarded a Diploma ACIN - the Romanian equivalent of the Academy Award - for his role in The Graduates (1986). In the arena of theater, Petrut directed such classics as "Death of a Salesman", "Waiting for Godot", "Love's Labour's Lost" for Romanian repertory theaters, and "The Two Gentlemen of Verona" for Magnolia Playhouse in Los Angeles.

As an accredited journalist, Petrut writes columns on Hollywood and California arts and culture for several Romanian publications, and is the host of "The Hollywood Minute" on Radio Romania.
