Barnes was an excellent all-around athlete who was a four-year letter winner in basketball and a two-year letterman in baseball, in addition to his exploits on the gridiron. To add to his many accolades, Barnes earned 1st-Team all-conference and all-district honors in basketball.

As a senior in college at Missouri, Tim Barnes made all 13 starts for the Tigers at center in 2009. He was part of an offensive line that gave up just 20 sacks in 13 games on the season. Barnes was named to the watch list for the Rimington Award, which is given to the nation's top offensive lineman.
