Both a left fielder and a first baseman, he was a first round selection of the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2012 MLB Draft who made his debut in the big leagues in July of 2015. He finished the season with a batting average of .305 and helped the Cardinals reach the NLDS where they lost to the Chicago Cubs.
Before Fame
He was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 45th round of the 2009 MLB Draft but he chose not to sign at that time. He then enrolled at Stanford to play college ball for the Cardinal, earning All-Pacific-10 Conference first team while there.
