Sandor entered the film industry by chance in 1981. Living behind the Iron Curtain, he was cast to play the leading role in the Hungarian feature film "Time Stand Still," directed by Peter Gothar with cinematography by Academy Award nominee Lajos Koltai.

The film has gone on to achieve cult status in Hungary since its release where it won the numerous awards. It has also been awarded worldwide recognition, including the prestigious 1982 "Youth Award" at the Cannes Film Festival, "Best Foreign Language Film" at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards, and "Best Director Award" at the Tokyo International Film Festival in 1985.

Sandor studied German Philology and Literature after which from 1986 until 1991, he attended the German Film & TV Academy (DFFB) in West-Berlin and directed several feature films ("Stowaways," 1991, chosen in the Official Program of the Venice Film Festival, "The Great Post Office Robbery," 1993).

In 1989, he founded Trans-Film and was attached as controlling shareholder until 1995. He co-produced a number of feature films, including "Schwarzfahrer" ("Black Rider") by Pepe Danquart, winner of the 1994 Academy Award For Best Live Action Short Film.
