Sally McLean has a prolific theatrical career, with performances on both the Australian and UK stage and screen. Not so surprising when you discover she began her career at the age of 10 as a member of a youth performing arts troupe, touring Australia, Holland, Switzerland and the UK.
She moved into appearing on Australian television and film as a teenager, with appearances on The Flying Doctors (1985), Bingles (1992) and Neighbours (1985). Her early work was recognized when she was nominated as 'Best New Talent' and 'Best Supporting Actress' at the 1990 MTGV Awards for her role of 'Ado Annie' in the stage version of 'Oklahoma'.
In the early 1990s, she left Australia to work and live in London, England, where she began gaining experience behind the scenes, working for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in production. She then attended The Actors' Institute, London, graduating in 1996.
She went on to work extensively in the UK theatre scene, playing lead roles in 'Uncle Vanya', 'Macbeth', 'Annabel's Requiem', 'Top Girls' and 'Hamlet'. She brought all her experience together in 1997, with the launch of her first film A Little Rain Must Fall (1997), under the umbrella of her newly-formed production company, Incognita Enterprises, and Honorary Patron, Nigel Hawthorne.
She returned to the Australian stage in the Australian premier of the off-Broadway hit, 'I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change', followed by the role of 'Marissa' in Duncan Sarkies' 'Lovepuke'. She has since appeared in numerous stage, television and film productions, including 'Angie Powers' in the BBC mini-series Bootleg (2002), 'Stacey' in the ABC comedy series Utopia (2014) and three seasons with the Australian Shakespeare Company.
