Gaetano "Nino" Martinetti was born in Rome where he studied Humanities and Art at the Collegio Santa Maria and at the Institute Manieri-Copernico Liceo Scientifico. Soon after he was conscripted in the Army for 15 months.
Nino moved to London in 1970 to study English and to develop his interest in Photography. In 1973 Nino traveled overland to Australia to study Photography. His first short film earned him his first A.
F.I.(AACTA) nomination for Best Cinematography. In 1984 Nino shot his first "Anamorphic" Australian feature film epic "Wills and Burke" thus was granted accreditation to the Australian Cinematographers Society.
After a 35 years career as an Australian DP, Nino has received four Australian Film Awards Nominations and several A.C.S Gold and Silver awards. In 1994 Nino won the A.F.I.(AACTA) "Best Cinematography"for the feature film "Exile".
Nino Martinetti ACS has photographed many film for internationally acclaimed Dutch-born Australian director Paul Cox. Review after review praised his painter's eye. His reputation grew within the industry as someone who achieved beautiful results quickly and cheaply.
Martinetti has been the President of the Australian Cinematographers Society (State of Queensland) from 2004 to 2009 and in the State of Victoria from 1992 to 1993. He is also a Mentor to film students at Griffith University, Bond University and NYFA (Australia).
