Best known as an Emmy Award-winning meteorologist and storm chaser for The Weather Channel. He began his time with the station in 2003, and has covered various major storms, including Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy.
He earned his Bachelor's of Science degree in atmospheric sciences from Ohio State University. In 1998, following his graduation, he became the chief meteorologist for the local Asheville, North Carolina ABC affiliate WLOS. He worked there until 2003 when he accepted his position with The Weather Channel.
He began his time hosting The Weather Channel show Weather Center Live in 2009. In May 2013, he and his storm chasing crew were struck by the EF3 tornado in Oklahoma. He survived the encounter with minor injuries, and returned to the field in 2014 to continue storm chasing.
He was born and raised in Tallmadge, Ohio. He married fellow meteorologist Allison Chinchar.
As an occasional fill-in meteorologist for NBC's The Today Show, he has appeared alongside the show's host Matt Lauer.
