Melissa began her career on Broadway, giving more than 2000 performances as Judy Turner in Michael Bennett's A Chorus Line. The groundbreaking theatricality of A Chorus Line honed her taste for the world of experimental theatre: physical theatre, dance/theatre, and devised theatre making.
Through the alchemy and merging of commercial Broadway and physical theatre aesthetics, Melissa forged The Hat, a complex, dreamlike narrative exploring love, loss, and the dynamics of abuse. Featuring a unique conversation between a trombone player and a dancer, productions of The Hat have moved audiences on both coasts and internationally.
