María Coral Otero Soto was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She was introduced to the performing arts at a very young age, and began her career as a child actor. Her debut in film was at 13 years old with the lead role in the feature film Ruido, directed by Cesar Rodríguez.
María Coral received great reviews for her work in Ruido by actress Kathy Bates, receiving the first ever Innovation Award at the 2006 Montreal World Film Festival. With Ruido, María Coral also attended the VIII Santo Domingo Film Festival where the film won Best Opera Prima, and the Havana Film Festival where it won the Audience Choice Award.
María has a double Bachelors Degree from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, in Theater and Communications. Her mentors are Teofilo Torres, Carola Garcia and Dean Zayas. In 2010 María Coral became a member of the Teatro Rodante directed by Zayas.
As part of the Teatro Rodante, María Coral worked in plays like Shakespeare's 'As You Like It', Valle Inclán 'Retablo de la Avaricia la Lujuria y la Muerte', and in Roy William's 'Days of Significance'.
María Coral also became part of the theater company Teatro Repertorio, where she played leading roles in Siglo de Oro's 'Desde Toledo a Madrid', and classics like Charley's Aunt.In theater she is mostly known for her portrait of Anne Frank in The Diary of Anne Frank, Los Titingós de Juan Bobo, Eréndira, and two successful seasons of the acclaimed play TOC-TOC in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
María Coral is also known for her work as a host for Telemundo and Univision. More prominently she hosted two seasons of the Walt Disney World Parks Christmas Specials in Telemundo.Overall, she is one of the most exciting up and coming Puerto Rican actors.
