Joshua William Dohy was born in Calgary, Alberta, to Leanne Dohy (Murray) a journalist and public relations representative, and Mike Dohy, who was an IT manager. He has two brothers: Nick and Ben Dohy.
He attended Central Memorial High School for 10th grade and Ernest Manning High School for grades 11 and 12.Josh grew up on both sides of the camera, shooting skits, parodies, and vlogs with his tight circle of friends.
He found his calling one day while skateboarding with his friends and they started to do parkour. After spending some time with the ever-welcoming parkour community, Josh felt the "eureka" moment of discovering his first passion.
Parkour quickly introduced him to the principle of using obstacles as opportunities. With the parkour mentality as a part of his toolkit, he became inseparable from his dreams. Josh received his first sponsorship in 2012, only 2 years into his practice and enjoyed a mentorship under Jason Paul of Team Farang.
In early 2017 he approached a talent agent in search of stuntwork and to his surprise the agent suggested he pursue work as an actor. Josh recognized that this was his chance to kickstart his dream of becoming an actor and snatched the opportunity immediately.
With a notebook and pen in hand, he took every chance he could to get on set to study how the actors and crew worked. Shortly after his first couple of jobs, he scored his first lead role in the short film One Night Only, where he experienced his second creative epiphany.
He recognized the feeling right away and began to pour his heart and soul into acting. After One Night Only, Josh moved to Cold Lake, Alberta, where he spent time reconnecting with his family and reading Ralph Waldo Emerson on the beach.
During that time, Josh found the website of Vancouver's New Image College, notable for its numerous successful alumni. Josh's friend and New Image College graduate, Lucas Othmer, recommended that Josh apply, saying it would be the best decision he'd ever make.
Josh diligently worked on his audition monologue and travelled hours away to the city of Edmonton to work on it with fellow actor from One Night Only, Owen Bishop.Josh's successful audition earned him enrollment in New Image's two-year, full time acting conservatory.
He has been taught by actors such as Phillip Granger, John Emmet Tracy, Ben Bass and Eugene Lipinski. The conservatory was a fast-paced all-encompassing program that challenged the students to take charge of their own learning.
Josh eagerly ate up all the technical knowledge his instructors taught and allowed it to digest over the length of the program. Towards the end, the more nebulous and complicated concepts started to crystallize into strong principles and lessons, feeding the furnace of Josh's fiery passion for the craft.
Josh took a deep interest in the exploration of these lessons, drawing the "macro from the micro", which lead him to come to his own conclusions and develop an acting technique that was truly his own.
To date, he has appeared in multiple films and theatre projects, continues to enjoy parkour/freerunning and has begun his own line of clothing, SELF. In his spare time, Josh enjoys learning how to take pleasure in the mundane, recording his dreams, communicating with the subconscious, and making sand castles on the beach.
