John Eisen grew up in Minneapolis and began acting on stage at the age of 11. His first modeling casting call as a high school sophomore resulted in a print ad for Josten's. After relocating to Los Angeles in September 2015, he took a year to get used to the city and then began the first of ten short films.
In January 2017, John returned to his stage roots. He opened as Leontes in a six week run of William Shakespeare's "The Winter's Tale". He had never acted Shakespeare before, but the director contacted him after call backs and offered him the lead.
The role was physically, technically, and emotionally demanding; it's ranked as #17 of the 20 largest Shakespeare parts (with over 600 lines); and the director asked for a British accent. The play received good reviews, proved to be one of the most successful shows in the company's history, and set a record for online sales.
Other theatre companies in LA began reviving the show, too.Wrapping in February 2017, he took a month off and then did a short horror film called "Loop". The part required two and a half hours of hair and make-up each day.
Once it wrapped, he began rehearsals for Vershinin in Anton Chekhov's "Three Sisters". Having never done Chekhov, either, he was part of a solid ensemble who led the show to a successful 5 week run. In 2018, John did two short, dramatic films (with no dialogue) on illegal international adoption.
"Tiny Fingers" was shot on a VR camera, and then "Little Eyes" was shot on a regular camera, yielding two completely different experiences of the same film. "Tiny Fingers", went on to be nominated for "Best VR Film" at the FICMA Film Festival in Mexico City.
"Little Eyes" was accepted into 4 film festivals in India. Both films will be released in the US soon.At the end of 2018, John was offered a lead role in his first feature film. "Free By Noon" is a dark comedy about a wealthy business executive on vacation in Las Vegas with his family.
He decides to step out and explore a new experience, only to get himself into a very, very serious situation he never imagined. The film was shot in Los Angeles and Las Vegas in the spring of 2019, and is slated to premiere in early 2020.
It is directed and written by Sundance Collab Screenwriting Fellow, Lakpathy Wijesekara.
