John Del Rico was born in Los Angeles California. The son of Herencia Del Rico a Cuban Italian engineer and inventor and his wife, Ingrid Del Rico of German descent. The Del Rico family moved to Orange County in the early 60's, which at the time was still a developing community.
Del Rico grew up watching comedy on television in the late 60's and became fascinated with some of the greats at the time like Jerry Lewis, Red Skelton, Flip Wilson, Buddy Hackett, and Milton Berle.As a teenager in the 70's Del Rico participated in sports like Track & Field and Soccer but, found that there was more of an adrenaline rush in Surfing, Skateboarding, and Flat Track racing.
The comedy boom in the 80's caught Del Rico's attention but, he didn't know how to get involved living Orange County so far from the comedy clubs in Los Angeles. In 1982 John attended the first open mic in Orange County, which was at the Laugh Stop in Newport Beach.
Del Rico was hooked and he continued to test his material at the Laugh Stops open mics until the comedy club was closed and replaced by a Burger King. Not having an outlet in Orange County to perform and hone his craft, Del Rico decided to audition for an improvisation comedy troupe in Los Angeles called "The LA Connection".
The director of The LA Connection, Ken Skov thought Del Rico had good comedic timing and could play a variety of ethnicity's. It was at the La Connection that Del Rico developed his improvisational skills and honed his comedic timing in front of live audiences.
In 1990 Sheri Kerr started a improvisation comedy troupe in Orange County called the "Orange County Crazies". Del Rico immediately joined the troupe and is a member of the original cast. In 1992 Del Rico was given a chance to be in a low budget film, when Charles T.
Kanganis chose him to play Mooch's trigger-man in the movie Intent to Kill (1992). From 1997 - 2001 Del Rico performed stand-up comedy in the Belly Room at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles. Del Rico continues doing stand-up comedy and has performed across the U.
S. and the U.K., using his multicultural background as a premise for his material.
