Some Jeremy Settles images
Jeremy was born in San Diego, California and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in the late 70s. Early on, Jeremy decided that the business of show was for him. As a child, his first job was performing at birthday parties as ET.
During his teenage years he moved on to creating scenes and shooting them in front of his home. One of the most memorable? Jeremy and a few friends obtained an old school bus and a bicycle which they set-up to look like a horrible traffic accident.
A buddy in full fledged GORY special effects make-up was portrayed at the scene as the "victim". A neighbor drove by, observed the horror and crashed into a car parked on the street. Needless to say, that brought the police and the paramedics.
While Jeremy and his friends explained to authorities they were only shooting a scene for a movie, Jeremy kept the camera rolling until he found himself bound by handcuffs in the backseat of the police car.
It wasn't until the paramedics knelt down to find the "victim", with the destroyed face and body - laughing! The paramedics were so impressed with the special effects, that Jeremy and his team were hired by them the following Halloween to do special effects make-up.
The officers were not as amused but decided to let the boys off the hook with a warning. It was then Bad Taste FX, Jeremy's first business was born. In addition to his new business,Jeremy accepted a job as a carpet cleaner for a busy local production company where he interned as well.
There he learned how to operate not just as a team, but a highly efficient commercial machine. Jeremy has been fortunate enough to learn all aspects of production. As an intern they would shoot three to five commercials a day - run and gun.
When you only have one chance to do it, you have to know how to light,do the audio, set up and shoot. Jeremy never went to film school. Reading books, watching movies and working is what he's done. While working mostly as a gaffer, grip and electrician on huge blockbusters, Jeremy simultaneously made his debut as a producer in 1995 with "Mr.
Ice Cream Man", a low budget independent full length motion picture, distributed internationally by now defunct Dead Alive Productions. With the founding of Guru Productions in 1996, he followed with the feature motion picture "Creep", currently distributed by Troma Releasing and Got Films.
By 2002 Jeremy had established himself as a camera operator and began shooting commercials,TV shows and music videos. In 2005, he received "Best Cinematography" for the short film "Ego", in the Vegas leg of the 48 Hour Film Project.
2003 was a big year for Jeremy. He completed his last feature film with Guru Productions titled "Trans-American Killer" aka "Switch Killer", released in 2005 by Lions Gate, formed Got Films, a thriving film/video production company and got married.
Currently Got Films' client roster includes MTV,A&E, Nascar, NBA TV, ESPN Hollywood and many others. His wife Rhonda runs the back-end of Got Films and is a part-time field/segment producer. As Got Films continues to gain awards for projects not yet on the map, Jeremy continues toward his goal of producing features and taking on the big "D" - Distribution.
He is building relationships with buyers, going to markets and finding out what purchasers are looking for. Little by little Jeremy is learning and making the right contacts. He is actually looking to pay the filmmakers! He has been honing his craft for fifteen years.
Jeremy Settles is the new breed of Jack - of - all - trades in the independent film world knowing that "doing it all" now must incorporate distribution.
