Jano Rosebiani acquired his knowledge of filmmaking during his college years in the mid-eighties, while managing movie theaters and producing a weekly show for a public access television in Northern Virginia which received a Hometown USA award in 1986.

Following that; he wrote, produced, and directed "Come Back", a made-for-TV experimental film. Rosebiani then moved to Los Angeles to make his debut film, "Dance of the Pendulum" in 1995.While "Dance.

.." had a modest reception in the international market, his true calling was his Kurdish language debut film "Jiyan" (2001). Opening at Rotterdam International Film Festival as a nominee for the Tiger Award, "Jiyan" became a festival favorite the world over, receiving awards and high critical acclaim, including four-star ratings by BBC World and the Guardian.

His subsequent films "Chaplin of the Mountains" (2013) and "One Candle, Two Candles" (2014) opened in NYC to favorable reviews. "Chaplin" was chosen as NY Times critics' pick and "Candles" was selected as a runner for the 2015 Golden Globes Award.

Presently Rosebiani is in the development stage of a mini-series on the Yazidi female victims of ISIS, entitled "Daughters of the Peacock Angel", the first dramatic series to take place in a refugee camp.

Rosebiani now lives between Los Angeles and Erbil. He is married to photojournalist Seivan M. Salim and has two children (Avesta born 2004, and Janovan born 2006).
