He grew up in a variety of residences, from the Bronx to Westchester County, New York, again in Connecticut and then upstate New York.While Ian was a young child, his family joined a guru-based religious group with eclectic teachings, synthesized from Hindu, Buddhihst, and other sources.

Some ideas were from famous artist, Nicholas Roerich. The religious practice involved, meditating, TM, and rituals featuring a gigantic, uncut crystal - from Venezuela. It was kept it in the middle of the group's mansion.

This started in New York City until the crystal was moved to Hopewell Junction, New York.The religious group also included, Neil Simon (playwright), Alan Arkin (actor) and his family, as well as many actors and actresses from Los Angeles.

Ian Couch and his family were involved up until he was 16, at which point they separated from the group, as it fell into crisis. Shortly thereafter, the guru hung himself.Ian's father, Joseph is an artist, photographer, and architect.

He was estranged from Ian's life due to the detrimental influence of the religious group, with which he did not agree. Ian's mother, screen name Janet Damon, was performing as a film actress, comedian, and comedy writer before Ian's birth and becoming involved with the religious group.

During one full moon eclipse gathering in 1993, he met fellow artist, Tasciotti and filmmaker, Tasciotti. Subsequently, they explored the Catskill Mountains and utilized the resort of entertainer, Peg Leg Bates for their artistic projects and UFO searches with author/artist, 'Louis Acker'.

Ian enjoys traveling and he does it as much as he can. Significant travels include: Canada and Mexico in the 1990s and Japan in 2006.
