Born to Colombian immigrants, he attended Harvard University (AB 1994) and New York University's graduate film program (MFA 2000). He received the Stride Rite and Echoing Green Post-Graduate Public Service Fellowships in 1995 and 1996 which he used to help fund his tenure as director of the Cambridge, Massachusetts based Teen Media Program at the Community Art Center where he and a group of his students founded the "Do it Your Damn Self!! National Youth Video and Film Festival" in 1996.

He directed, shot, produced and edited numerous short films while at Harvard and NYU that have been shown and have won awards in a variety of venues both nationally and internationally. He worked as director of International Progams at the New York Film Academy in 2001 and later was invited to be a visiting professor in the Communications Dept.

at the Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico City Campus. After a semester he was invited to become a full-time faculty member where he currecntly teaches a variety of film and video related courses at the Mexico City, Mexico State and Querétaro Campuses.

While at the Tec he has overseen over 100 student documentary and fiction projects shot in both film and video. Most recently, one project from his film production class was shown at the Sundance, Morelia, and Clermont-Ferrand Film Festivals.
