Gary Brooks is an American Deaf filmmaker. In 1988, Gary enrolled at Gallaudet University where he pursued his Bachelor of Arts in Television, Film, and Photography. During his tenure as an undergraduate student, he learned to use all kinds of equipment in the field of Television and Remote production.
He was always staying late in TV studio helping the staff set up the lighting, camera, and set design. He volunteered to work for Gallaudet Television programs "Deaf Mosaic" and recruitment projects. Upon his senior year, he finally had the opportunity to produce his first short feature "Blue Apple" (1994).
After graduating from Gallaudet with a Bachelor of Arts, he returned to his alma mater and registered as a special student. He produced and directed another film "Scarecrow" in 1996. He started working at the Smithsonian Institution Library to supplement his income.
Using his personal funds, he purchased film equipment to produce and direct "Dr. Hand" (2005) and "That Thing from Outer Space" (2006). He left the Smithsonian to work at Gallaudet Television as a full-time digital technician before being promoted to director and producer to oversee various academic video projects for both clients and patrons.
In 2015, He return back to his director's and produced several documentaries for Gallaudet such as "America's Founders: Friends of the Deaf" (2016); "Seeds of Hope: The Andrew Jackson Foster Story" (2018) In 2019, he received Master of Arts in Production, film, television, and video from American University.
Gary's upcoming film "The Feather: The Agatha Tiegel Hanson Story" which will be released in April 2020. Gary continues to write new scripts and producing several projects. He hopes one day he can work for Disney Studios and contribute his ideas for future Star Wars and Disney feature films.
