She began working as a secretary studying acting at a private theatre school. Eventually in 1963 she was cast in a play at Riksteater, Stockholm and then she moved on to perform at Stockholm City Theatre.

She was something of a male pipe dream. Unusually attractive with a very modern emancipated sexy look. In 1965 she starred in "Jag en kvinna". The blockbuster that was to confuse the sexy film character "Siv" with the actress Essy Persson.

Fed up with always being casted as light-footed sexy women, she turned to art. Essy Persson studied at the College of Fine Arts 1981-1984. Since then she has mostly been active as a visual artist. Essy Persson has, up till now, appeared in 17 feature films and television productions.
