After awakening-from coma-Dax was forced to overcome short-term memory loss, long-term memory loss, as well as 're-learn' basic motor functions such as learning to walk (again), and learning to talk (again).
As he recalls, Dax's brain eventually re-learned basic A-B-C's, 1-2-3's, and -in due time-proved UAB medical personnel to have falser preconceived notions as Dax was able to regain consciousness . After months of outpatient/inpatient hospital rehabilitation, he returned to his collegiate studies at UAB.
