She graduated at the top of her class from Northwestern University's Radio-TV-Film program and was the winner of the university's Richter Scholarship for a thesis she wrote on TV3, Televisió de Catalunya (Barcelona, Spain).
She won the Mark of Excellence Award from the Society of Professional Journalists for a televised interview with former President Jimmy Carter on the subject of international human rights violations. As a filmmaker, she's made nineteen short films since 2000 in the U.
S., Spain, France, and Portugal which have won 52 international awards, collectively, and which have played at hundreds of festivals and venues around the world. Westlake is fluent in Spanish and proficient in Italian and Portuguese.
