Born David Chock Tam in Miami, Oklahoma January 12th, 1955. He graduated from Miami High School, Miami, Oklahoma and attended the University of Oklahoma, Norman, graduating with a degree in Architecture.
He practiced architecture for 23 years, and wrote fiction and did small-part acting as time allowed.
