David was raised in Brampton - a multicultural suburb of Toronto - by James, a factory foreman and Margaret, the primary caregiver of his baby sister Jeanine who has special needs. Though starting his career as an actor, in the past nine years David has been a producer on 15 feature films of various genres - four that landed on Netflix and one that premiered at Sundance - as well as three short films, and a television pilot for Spike TV.

Moving to Los Angeles in 2008, David made the leap to producing after landing lead acting roles in three independent movies that were enjoyable experiences, but had disappointing results. This prompted him to begin to study filmmaking and the business of it from others and he discovered he enjoyed having more creative control in the execution of the films and the hiring of cast and crew.

In 2012 he formed his own production company, Phillm Productions, which tackles everything from the development of scripts, to casting, filming and distribution. As a kid, David's passion for entertainment began early and his family was always supportive of his various pursuits: hosting local events, winning speech contests, and performing lead roles in high school plays and musicals.

After high school, he was accepted in the top three colleges for acting he'd applied for - including receiving an entrance scholarship from his top choice, Ryerson, known as the "Julliard of Canada" at the time.

After graduation, David landed a job as a 9th Grade Math and Geography teacher before his professional career in entertainment began: as host of the popular Canadian kid's video game show, "Video and Arcade Top Ten" for two seasons, and then leaving after being selected to join the acting company at The Stratford Festival - where for three years he performed Shakespeare and classical theatre in multiple plays in rep in front of audiences of thousands.

He was awarded both a Tyrone Guthrie Award, and a Brampton Citizen Arts Acclaim Award from his hometown.
