Dashiell Raymond Mihok was born on May 24, 1974 in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, New York City, to Andrea Mihok (née Cloak) and Raymond Thorne (born Raymond Mihok), both actors, with ties to the New York stage. He is of Czech and British descent. Dash was raised in a trendy artist building. He attended many different schools, including the Bronx High School of Science. During his freshman year in 1988, while going to high school, he participated in City Kids, a foundation in New York City whose purpose is to engage and develop young people through programs dealing with self-esteem, leadership, and communication, which grew into a role on CityKids (1993), a short-lived TV series that starred a group of multi-ethnic teen actors and Jim Henson's Muppets. Dash was part of the group's touring company, which put on productions all over the city.Much of the New York native's early work was lensed in his hometown. The young actor appeared in guest spots on the NYC-filmed dramas New York Undercover (1994), NYPD Blue (1993), and Law & Order (1990). Mihok made his film debut in the 1994 racially themed independent feature "Black is White" before receiving particularly strong reviews for his role as a mentally unbalanced young man in the CBS-TV movie thriller Murderous Intent (1995), and an appearance in Barry Levinson's hard-hitting Sleepers (1996) followed. While Mihok's performances in these New York-filmed features were strong, he first gained real notice with his featured role in Baz Luhrmann's modern take on Romeo + Juliet (1996).He was a featured regular on the CBS sitcom Pearl (1996), on which he starred as Rhea Perlman's rebellious son Joey. He also had a recurring role during 1999 on the WB's college drama Felicity (1998) as Lynn, a competitive swimmer attending the fictional University of New York. He has also had a guest appearance on Doi Dieu Tra Hien Truong (2000).To date, he has been in a variety of independent and high-budget films, the most recent of which being Hollywoodland (2006) and Firehouse Dog (2007).

1994

Mihok got his start doing guest spots in local New York City productions of Law & Order, NYPD Blue, and New York Undercover. In 1994, Mihok debuted in the independent film, Black is White. In 1995, Mihok appeared in the CBS movie of the week, Murderous Intent.

1996

In 1996, Mihok was a featured regular in the role of Joey in the Rhea Perlman CBS sitcom Pearl.

1997

In 1997, Mihok met Alanis Morissette through friend Leonardo DiCaprio during a trip to Cuba. The lyrics to the songs "So Pure" from Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie and "That Particular Time" from Under Rug Swept are about him.

1998

In 1998, for Terrence Malick's Thin Red Line, Mihok said he spent an intensive six months working on the film, with the amount of footage constituting a full starring part, but during editing was reduced to an ensemble role as Private First Class Doll. Mihok is slated to direct an episode in 2017, as he said he has been directing pilots to prepare.

In 1999, Mihok appeared on The WB series Felicity, where he portrayed Lynn, a competitive Swimmer, in multiple episodes.

In 2004, Mihok appeared on Sicilian-Puerto Rican New York-based Rapper Sabac Red's record Sabacolypse: A Change Gon' Come, on the track "I Have A Dream." The lyrics refer to tics that people exhibit as symptoms of Tourette syndrome.

For the 2005 movie Green Street Hooligans, Mihok wrote the title track “Test of a Man." During this time he also collaborated with Daniel Freedman, a jazz Drummer, percussionist, and Composer on various music projects.

In 2006, Mihok appeared in the film Hollywoodland and in 2007 in the film, Firehouse Dog.

In 2008, he played Detective Martin Soap in the film Punisher: War Zone.

In 2009, Mihok married singer Valeria Mason. They have two children and live in Los Angeles. Mihok has said that he is Catholic.

2011

As part of the 2011 straight-to-video film, Lifted, Mihok and the actor who plays his son in the film, Uriah Shelton, recorded a song called "I Miss You." The film features many musical and dance performances by Mihok.

2013

Since 2013, Mihok has co-starred as Brendan "Bunchy" Donovan in the Showtime drama Ray Donovan. Bunchy has been sexually abused by a priest and is an alcoholic and suffers from sexual anorexia. For the show the cast works out at the Santa Monica, California boxing gym Wild Card West with boxer Rob Garcia.

In 2014, he portrayed Whelan, in the horror-thriller film, Before I Wake, co-starring in the Mike Flanagan-directed film Annabeth Gish, Thomas Jane and Kate Bosworth.
