Before leaving Santa Fe, he was honored with the prestigious Mayor's Award for Excellence in the Arts-Youth Artist Award. Then he moved to Chicago where he worked with a number of theatre companies, including the Neo-Futurists.

Driven by a need to deepen his craft he attended the California Institute of the Arts where he received his BFA in Acting.
