Christo Bakalov was born in 1957 in Sofia, Bulgaria. He graduated with Masters in Cinematography of the National Theatre and Film Art Academy - Sofia, Bulgaria in 1985. His film debut was "Cat's Tail" (1987), 35mm narrative short, directed by Virginia Kostadinova.
He has shoot 33 films, including feature films like "Exitus" (1989), directed by Krasimir Krumov, "Silence" (1990) and "The Devil's Tail" (2001), directed by Dimiter Petkov, "Holiday Makers" (2016), directed by Ivailo Pentchev, and more.
In the late nineties, Christo Bakalov won a US green card and moved to the United States where he continued his work as a cinematographer. His first feature film in the US was the movie "Whirlygirl", directed by Jim Wilson - an Oscar-winning producer for the movie "Dancing With Wolves".
Some of the other feature films which Bakalov shot in the US are "Americanizing Shelley", "The Shunning ", "All Me, All The Time", "The Ultimate Life ", starring the legendary Peter Fonda, "House of Dust" and "5 Weddings".
But two of the most interesting projects in which he has participated, leading him to the Far East are - "Colors of Passion", directed by the well known Indian director Ketal Mehta, which tells the story of an Indian artist of the 19th century Raja Ravi Varma, and the other one - "Samsara", directed by Pan Nalin recreates a spiritual love story between a Buddhist monk and the daughter of a wealthy farmer, which takes place among the peaks of the Himalayas.
