Bobb Hopkins was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, USA as Robert J. Hopkins. He began his career as an actor by studying with renowned teacher, Lee Strasberg, then went on to perform in many TV shows and movies.

He eventually became a producer/writer/director, known for Rail Kings (2002), 3 Below (2005), and The 13th Alley (2007). Previously, he was an All-Conference Quarterback and Team Captain at the University of New Hampshire.

Upon graduation, he signed free agent contracts with the Chicago Bears and New York Jets, but his NFL career was terminated by injuries. Additionally, after producing the acclaimed PBS-TV documentary, The Great American Hobo (1980), he founded the National Hobo Association in 1987 to benefit hoboes nationwide and preserve the time honored traditions of the freight train riding men and women who have been migratory workers since the Civil War.

In 1996, he produced a sequel and more informative documentary, The American Hobo: The Railriding Worker, which was narrated by Academy Award Winner Ernest Borgnine and featured interviews with Pulitzer Prize Winner James A.
