He made his singing debut with an orchestra in Guadalajara, Mexico and received standing ovations for My Way and Cuando Cuando. His first play was as Lord Creon in Oedipus Rex at Chicago's Circle Theater.
His movie break came after standing last in line for eight hours to audition for Revenge of the Stolen Stars (1986) for which he landed the lead role opposite Klaus Kinski. His friends call him "Hollywood Hickey" because of his vast knowledge in all matters related to filmmaking.
