She has worked as an actress in all six of the languages she speaks: Catalan, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian and English.A few of her many films are: Uncertainty (2008) with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, directed by Scott McGehee and David Siegel, Pedro Almodóvar's Matador (1986), the 1993 Spanish Oscar entry El maestro de esgrima (1992) directed by Pedro Olea, María Luisa Bemberg's film, Yo, la peor de todas (1990), The Craft (1996) for Columbia Tri Star, Samuel Fuller's The Day of Reckoning, Wild Orchid (1989), opposite Mickey Rourke. She has worked on more than 20 European co productions, such as Nostradamus (1994), with Rutger Hauer and F. Murray Abraham, Le cercle des passions (1983), with Max von Sydow, The PianoTuner of EarthQuakes (2005) by the Quay Brothers and produced by Terry Gilliam and Desvío al paraíso (1994) with Charles Dance.Her performances have been acclaimed in popular British TV series such as Sharpe where she played the feisty guerrilla leader Teresa opposite Sean Bean and in Henry VIII, with Ray Winstone, playing the King's first wife Catherine of Aragon. In Spain she was a regular on the country's most popular TV show Aquí no hay quien viva (2003). In 2011, she played Vanozza, the mother of Cesare and Lucrezia Borgia, in the series Borgia (2011), written and produced by Tom Fontana, shown in 35 countries.She was elected to the board of the European Film Academy representing Spain for 6 years and responsible for the organization of the European Film awards (2004) in Barcelona (with a 1.8 million euro budget). Whist living in Los Angeles she was an active member of the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences, serving on the committee for Foreign film. She was the first Spanish actress to be honored with membership to AMPAS and is one of only six living actors to be members in all Spain. She has been a proud member since 1993.She has sat on juries in International film festivals around the world, such as Chicago, Venice, San Sebastian, Mar del Plata (Argentina), Biarritz, Rio de Janeiro, Montreal, Karlovy Vary, Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), Brussels, Cluj (Romania), and Rome.She was elected President of AISGE in 2002. AISGE is the organization in Spain that deals with the task of managing and protecting the intellectual property rights of actors. She was also voted vice-president of ARTIS, the European Association of intellectual property rights for actors. After the release of her first book she began teaching workshops in Universities and Film Schools on the subject of screen-acting. In 2005 founded with Scott Cleverdon first team an international non-profit film foundation. Based in Spain, first team offers a pioneering university course on Screen Acting for actors, believed to be the first of its kind in the world and tuition programs for directors and scriptwriters.Her book, El trabajo del actor de cine was the first to be written in Spanish regarding the craft of film-acting. 1990

Serna is known for her starring role in I, the Worst of All (1990) portraying famous Mexican religious scholar Sor Juana. She co-starred with Antonio Banderas in Matador (1986), one of the first films by Pedro Almodóvar, and she appeared in such films as Wild Orchid (1990), Chain of Desire (1992), Nostradamus (1994), The Shooter (1995), The Craft (1996) and Kiss & Tell (1997).

1993

Serna was born in Barcelona, Spain. She studied law until she was 19, after which she "preferred being an anarchist" and joined the Barcelona's School of Dramatic Arts. In 1993, she married her co-star in Sharpe's Company, Scott Cleverdon, who portrayed Lieutenant Harry Price in the film.

1999

Serna has written two books on acting technique: Screen acting or El trabajo del actor de cine (1999), which was the first book to be written in Spanish regarding the craft of film-acting, and Monologues in V.O. (2001), a resource for auditioning actors.

2000

They formed Fundación First Team and, since 2000, have taught 4,000 students in 6 countries in collaboration with various film schools and film festivals. The last workshop was at the Guadalajara International Film Festival in Mexico. Foundation First Team always include disabled and under-privileged people in their courses.

2004

She has volunteered in many organizations, such as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), where for four years she helped select foreign movies for the Oscars. She was a board member of the European Film Academy (EFA) for eight years, and raised 1.8 million euros to bring the European film awards to Catalunya in 2004.

2011

On the small screen, Serna is known for playing a Spanish guerrilla in the first four of ITV's Sharpe series of television films based on the novels of Bernard Cornwell, an Italian role in Falcon Crest, and portraying Catherine Of Aragon in Henry VIII opposite Helena Bonham Carter and Ray Winstone. She also acted on the popular Spanish TV series Aquí no hay quien viva. From 2011 to 2014, Serna played one of the female leads, Vannozza dei Cattanei, mistress of Cardinal Rodrigo Borgia, in Tom Fontana's historical drama Borgia.

2013

Serna served as President of AISGE (Actores e Intérpretes – Sociedad de Gestión de España), Spain's society of managing intellectual property rights for actors.

2016

She co-produced with Wildcard UK a documentary called Fresco Fiasco and acted in the movie Behold the Monkey, two films about the famous restoration of the Ecce Homo which attracted more than 200,000 visitors from 170 countries to the little town of Borja to see the painting. Both projects were seen in February 2016 on the Sky Arts network in the UK.
