Acclaimed writer-director Andrew de Burgh was born to an English father and Indian mother in Shrewsbury, a small town in the county of Shropshire, England. In addition to the UK, Andrew grew up in several countries including France, Spain, the Netherlands, UAE, India and the United States.
He became interested in cinema at a very early age. Early favorites include "Home Alone", "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace", "Toy Story" and "Small Soldiers." As a teenager, Andrew was intrigued by thrillers, as well as Korean and Japanese Cinema, such as Adrian Lyne's "Fatal Attraction", Christopher Nolan's "The Prestige", Akira Kurosawa's "Rashomon", Kim Jee-woon's "I Saw the Devil" and Park Chan-wook's "Oldboy".
Inspired by the style of his favorite writer-director Christopher Nolan, de Burgh soon moved into writing and directing. In 2015, he directed his debut short film, the psychological thriller "Just One Drink", which he also wrote, produced and starred in opposite Barbara Nedeljakova.
The film earned praise from critics, garnering a rare 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and was distributed as an editor's pick by ShortsTV, the distributor behind each year's Oscar® Nominated Short Films.
Staci Layne Wilson of Dread Central called him a "promising young director" and Felix Vasquez Jr. of Cinema Crazed stated that "he has potential to create a cinematic masterpiece." In 2017, he wrote and directed the black and while silent thriller short 'The Twisted Doll' which screened at several international film festivals as well as the Virtual Reality horror short "Queen of Hearts".
In 2018, de Burgh made his feature debut with the cerebral sci-fi drama "The Bestowal". Ryan Pollard of Starburst Magazine, the world's longest running magazine of cult entertainment, called it "unique, challenging and thought-provoking".
