In 2003, Amanda Richer was chosen to play the principal role of Kendra in the groundbreaking kids show, Deafplanet.com, which aired on TVO and garnered 2 Gemini Award nominations. Amanda went on to direct a documentary, Marianne Matters, where she won Best Canadian Filmmaker at the Toronto International Deaf Film and Arts Festival in 2011.
In 2014, Amanda was given a Defty Award in the Drama category from the Canadian Cultural Society of the Deaf for her 'The Seagull' monologue written by Anton Chekhov. Amanda also produced and starred in the award winning short film, Longhand.
Longhand had a very successful run on the festival circuit, winning Best Acted Film at the Freedom Shorts Festival; The Grand Jury Prize at the Long Day Short Film Festival; Best Canadian Film at the Toronto International Deaf Film and Arts Festival; and a Defty Award of Excellence in the Arts.
Amanda's work was also recognized by the Lakeshorts International Short Film Festival, awarding her the Emerging Artist Award. For 4 months Amanda was Sally Hawkins ASL (American Sign Language) coach on the Best Picture Oscar winning film, The Shape of Water.
