Born in 1930 in New York, New York Alvin Greenman's last television appearance was in 2001 where he appeared in "Backstory,"a documentary series, as himself.
He is best known for his portrayal of Alfred in the 1947 version of Miracle On 34th Street.While most of his work involved script supervision and dialogue coaching Mr. Green continued to take on minor television and film roles throughout his career.
As as dialogue coach and script supervisor Mr. Greenman worked on many movies like the The Longest Yard, the Karate Kid and Uncommon Valor as well as successful television series like Doogie Howser, Hillstreet Blues and Roots,etc.
However, by far and away Alvin Greeman is best known for his good-natured portrayal of Alfred the store janitor for Macy's in the original Miracle on 34th street. Though Alvin Greenman's character was a minor one, like many of the minor characters in Miracle on 34th, it was a memorable one with memorable lines such as:"There is a lot of bad ism's floating around this world and one of the worst is commercialism.
