Adam William Cahill was born in London to an Irish mother, Mary (Breen), a secretary, and English father, Tom Cahill, a security operative and union rep for Royal Mail. His parents divorced when he was five years old, at which point his mother took him and his younger brother, Brian, back to her hometown of Dublin, where they've lived ever since.
Adam had always been a creative person and longed to be a performer from a young age. He began to sing as soon as he could speak, and loved to perform for audiences from as early as six years of age in karaoke bars and in his school choir.
He also took part in school plays and went to drama classes. He had never been much of a reader, but having become enamoured with Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy, he felt compelled to read Tolkein's novels.
This galvanised not only Adam's love for the fantasy genre, but a desire to take up creative writing.Upon leaving school, without a sense of direction, he worked a myriad of retail jobs, and at points even found himself in management.
However, after years of feeling unfulfilled through lack of creative expression, he eventually left the industry to develop his skills as a video editor, working for an alternative media group creating short documentaries.
He would eventually use these documentaries in his college application portfolio, and as a result he was deemed eligible to skip the first year of a Media and Communications course. In college his attentions quickly turned from documentary film making to narrative drama.
He would start writing stories again, and it was also an opportunity for him to star in everything that he made. In his final year of college, he wrote, produced, and directed his first short film, Inertia (2017), starring Tadhg Devery and Marybeth Herron, with whom he still has a strong working relationship and friendship.
It was watching these actors perform what he had written that finally brought home the realisation that he himself wasn't born to be in front of the camera, but to write, produce, and direct. He wanted to be an auteur.
In 2016 he graduated from the University of Wolverhampton with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film Production.During his college tenure he'd spent time working in diverse capacities on various TV series that were being filmed in Ireland at the time.
This included a role as Samuel Barnett's (Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency) body double on Showtime's Penny Dreadful (2014-2016). While on set he paid close attention to all of the production elements in order to get a better idea of how things operate on set, and became very friendly with the assistant directors and camera assistants, never missing an opportunity to network.
Wasting no time at all, Adam wrote his first feature film Follow the Dead a month after finishing college, and went into production shortly thereafter having taken a loan from the bank in order to invest in himself and his colleagues.
Since then Adam has set up Wild Stag Productions, with his ambition being to use the medium of film to tell unique, thought provoking stories, with an emphasis on making Irish genre films.
